I'm getting braces two weeks from today. At EIGHT THIRTY IN THE MORNING. Joy.

I don't mind all that much, really, since it means I'll eventually be able to chew on both sides of my mouth, which is a very good thing, but the timing really sucks. It'll be like, "Hey, the sun's barely up, so let's put a bunch of metal in your mouth! Yay!" I hate having to get up in the morning, especially if it's for dental work.

...I want some popcorn.

I helped steal a trashcan at school today. Well, not steal it, really, just reposition it, 'cause there wasn't one in the Bubble anymore and the trash was piling up. So someone noticed that there were two trashcans side by side out near one of the parking lots, so we "tactically acquired" one of them. Plus it's one of the ones that used to be in the Bubble, so the universe is back in balance. Figuratively speaking, that is.

I have a feeling I won't enjoy my English class. I hate essays and research papers. x_X Just kill me now.

Since school starts tomorrow (0_0*gasp!*), I've decided to make a list of things I'd like to accomplish.

1. I will do my homework. If it looks really impossible, I'll at least try to make a good stab at it. (And I will definitely not go on a violent homework-induced rampage using my Physical Science textbook as a weapon.)

2. I will keep my room clean(ish).

3. I will stop angsting about my ex (AKA Rajai, Ali Akbar, or Ol' Snarly) and get on with my life. (I really mean it this time.)

4. I will remember to eat lunch every day; my brain needs fuel, after all.

5. I will attempt to wear every piece of clothing in my closet and dresser to school at least once. (Though not all at the same time, of course.)

6. I will not get the flu again. It's messy, miserable, and inconvenient, and makes me space out in class.

7. I will keep writing for pleasure, even if it kills me.

8. I will try to be more patient with the dumb/clueless/uninteresting/annoying people I have to deal with. (Notice I said try.)

9. I will think things through before speaking. If this means I clam up completely, so be it. At least there won't be as much of a chance that I'll make a complete fool of myself.

I was going to come up with an even ten, but I couldn't think of another one. And hey, nine is the number of the Fellowship! You can't go wrong with them, right? Right!

...Which reminds me: What's up with the whole Aragorn/Legolas thing? It's one of the most popular pairings around, but I just don't get it. Everytime I see an Aragorn/Legolas fic I have a sudden, inexplicable urge to pull Aragorn off the poor Elf and scream "BAD DUNADAN! No biscuit!"

...And then I'd swat him with a rolled-up newspaper. XD

I also wonder why--regardless of pairing, rating, or any other circumstance--Legolas always has to be on bottom. Just 'cause he's pretty and has long hair? *snort*

Wait, there's one exception to that: If it's Elladan/Elrohir/Legolas, Legolas is usually in the middle. (Elladan: "Elf sandwich, Legolas? Mmm, Elf sandwich! Trade you for that Dwarf?" [Bonus points if you recognize the reference.])

I got inspired again, so I wrote this. It's sort of a sequel to Ferren's letter. (Hence the slashy icon. *grin*)

Ferren, Beloved,
I miss you. It feels so good to finally admit that. I MISS YOU. How many months has it been? I forget, but it seems like forever.

I hate it here. Nothing smells right, the food is awful, and nobody seems to trust me. I’ve become fairly competent with the language, and Lucien’s started teaching me to “write like a proper Englishman” (his words). I’m rolling my eyes at that, beloved; they’ve lived here for hundreds of years, and they still insist on calling themselves English! Why do I say “they”? It should be “we”, really, but somehow I can’t bring myself to identify with other humans.

There I go—rambling again. What I really meant to write about is your letter to me. It sounded like you think I hate you. Maybe I did, at least for a little while. I was so angry with you for not respecting my wishes. I was finally reconciled with the thought of dying; I was ready for it, wanting it even, after so much pain. And then there you went, forcing me to live. How like you. I could have killed you for that.

I was just too bitter about losing it all—my health, the light of the sun, the chance to see my body grow and mature. I’m so sorry I hurt you like that. I couldn’t help it. I suppose it’s like the saying: “An injured dragon kills not the man with the sword, but the man with the salve.” I was frightened and in pain, and I thought you were the cause of all my misery.

Please, please, please, don’t be sad. I can’t bear it that you think I don’t want you. I do want you—desperately, completely, painfully. At night, thoughts of you distract me from my studies, and by day—oh, so many days now I’ve dreamed of you, only to awake, sweating and trembling with desire… and alone.

Alone in soul, that is, but not in body. So many times now, Lucien has asked me into his bed. And I go. Powers forgive me, but I go, if only to keep him away from the other boys. I see the way he stares at them sometimes, particularly Michael—the boy couldn’t be much more than thirteen! I worry about them, about what he’d do to them, so I offer myself to him. Don’t worrt, though. He doesn’t treat me too roughly, and he goes to great pains to make sure I enjoy myself too. But he’s not you. (And I can say with some authority that the food isn’t the only thing around here that doesn’t taste right.)

I’m so sorry I couldn’t come to the Solstice celebrations. I would have liked to see you again, if only for a little while. It looks like the soonest we can meet is at the wedding—only what? Three years from now? I mentioned it to Lucien, and he made some comment about how I just want to “abuse that poor boy on his nuptual bed” (his words again) before Ria gets a chance to. I got pretty angry with him about that, but I must admit the idea has a certain appeal.

I don’t think I can wait three years, though. I want you now! I wish I could walk out this door and find myself in your arms. I’d make love to you for a week, at least. I want to hold onto you as tightly as I can until it becomes impossible to tell us apart, so we would feel the same pleasure, cry out with the same voice, weep the same joyful tears.

Please start growing your hair again. I have fantasies where it’s grown so long that you can wrap it around yourself (and other people) like a cloak. I want it to be so long that I can bury myself in its golden depths and never come out. You’d be so beautiful, like Erion of the Blue Mantle when he first come to rest on the earth.

Write back as soon as you get this, I beg you. I want to know every detail of your home, your family, your forest, your life. I’m impatient for news of you, Asaeren. Don’t let the things I’ve said come between us.

The heatwave is over, at least temporarily, and it's been raining off and on for the past day or so. Yay for rain! And yay for temperatures below "surface of the sun"!

I'm hard at work cleaning my room. Well, not right now, of course. *shifty eyes* But I've got to have it done by Tuesday, or my parents go berserk and throw everything I own into a dumpster (or so they've led me to believe). Motivational, ain't it?

I've decided what I want my friends at school to do for my birthday--I'm going to provide them with a notebook to fill with memories, ramblings, doodles, jokes, etc. Since classes start on the 28th, that'll give them about two months to (hopefully) fill it completely. *bubbly optimism* (Heehee, I made a pun! Geddit? Bubbly? And my friends hang out in the Bubble? ...Ehhh. Forget it.)

Oh, and my very own fantasy world finally has a name: Yanna! I thought of it while I was half-asleep, and it was one of those "but of course!" moments where everything just falls together. I also had a dream where Ferren told me the real name of the Western Forest, but I forgot it when I woke up. -_-' Now nothing else I come up with is going to sound right. *sigh* I'm almost positive it began with an E, though. *ponders*

I went to see Pirates again today, and took my mom. (...Well, technically, she took me... since I can't drive and all that.) I think I enjoyed it more this time, 'cause I noticed more of those neat little details.

I miss classes. I miss being on campus. I miss the totally disorganized library--well, maybe it's not disorganized; they just seem to have their own filing system that has little or nothing to do with Dewey Decimal (they don't even file the fiction by author! o_o). I miss my awesome teachers, especially Dr. Carlone (she's not teaching Spanish 3 this semester *sniffle*). Heck, I even miss homework! (Ha!)

But what I really miss is my friends. I sometimes wonder if I had a social life before "The Bubble"; I probably did, but it definitely wasn't like this. I miss plotting to secede from the college and start a new country, I miss lightsaber fencing, I miss the mooching, I miss the off-color jokes, I miss Formal Fridays, and I have to stop missing things now before I totally depress myself.

Wow, I even miss Jared, and that's saying something. He's so wacky that most of the time it's annoying, but sometimes he's quite amusing. *shrug*

The only thing is... having to see him again. I mean, if he didn't want to be with me anymore, all he had to do was say so. I still would have been crushed, but it would have been better than what happened. I can be pretty forgiving, but avoiding me for weeks, criticizing me in public, not having the decency to talk with me about any of it.... *exasperated sigh* No es muy macho.

And now it'll be all awkward between us, 'cause we have the same group of friends, and I'll probably end up sad and uncomfortable most of the time. Or maybe I'll just chew him out. Hmmm... the idea has merit. But that probably wouldn't have any effect on him. Well, if the chewing out part doesn't work, I can always suckerpunch him.

Iiiiiiiin other news, I got started on another story last night. It started out fairly well, I thought; I had the perfect tone and everything.... But then I had to give it up and go to bed 'cause my mind kept drifting away from it. Bah! Why is my brain such crap?!

I'm going to go read something fluffy now before my mind turns into the Black Hole of DOOM (TM), though it may be too late.

I had a dream last night about Pirates of the Caribbean. Jack had fixed up the Black Pearl so it would sail on land, and he and his crew were robbing swanky houses. Except the Kraken was still after him for some reason, so he had to gather up these legal documents that had his blood on them (evidently it was some legal pirate thing) to throw it off his trail. And some of them had ended up in the future for some reason, so he sent Elizabeth to get them, and she ended up in a train station trying to convince some woman to give her the papers, except she (the other woman) wouldn't because she was OMG IN LUV!!1!!11! with Jack.

...And there was something about a giant ropeswing that could keep the Kraken away that Jack discovered while he was robbing our house. I don't know why he was robbing our house in particular. He just was.

Oh, and Jack had married Will and Elizabeth... married them, not married them; as much as I love OT3s, my brain just wasn't willing to provide this time.

So. Yes. At least it's better than the one where my ex-boyfriend, my ex-boyfriend-in-law, and I were throwing lunch meat at people while snogging each other madly. That one wins the WTF prize, no contest.

I'm still alive so far, though if this heat wave keeps up I might not last too long. Plus I haven't been sleeping too well, and it's been pretty dull around here lately anyway.

I had a major creative surge last night, and stayed up til 3:30 writing. The story... writing... thing ended up being a lot kinkier than I'd intended, but it's really given me some insights into the characters. I'll let it mellow for a few days, edit it, and then post it.

I wrote this a while ago, but didn't reread it until last night. It seems to have aged better than most of the other stuff I've written on a whim.

I am traveling along with the Alvar clan and “our sister” Aleina, the same as every summer. We’ll reach Kaselin within the week, if the weather holds. As I write this, I am sitting in the cart where most of our costumes are kept, watching the world roll by as I ponder my next words to you.

I’m not very sure why I decided to write to you. Aleina tells me you’ve moved to Tella Rovina with Lucien. I can only wish you every joy in your new life—new life in every sense, it seems, since you’ve decided to sever all connections with your past. I cannot pretend to be glad about that, because I am part of that past, whether you care to admit it or not.

Some days are easier than others. During the easy days I can imagine that you’ll still be waiting for me when I return home from my summer wanderings. But then I remember that the place I’ll be returning to is no longer a home for either of us. You may show up for the solstice too, but neither of us can stay.

If I do see you there, what will you do? What will I say? You know I stayed loyal to you while the change was upon you, and afterwards I made every effort to please you, but I was always rebuffed by Lucien or—more painfully—by you. Those two weeks were constant agony—to be able to look at you, but not to touch you… that was my deepest sorrow.

That day you first reached out to me, the day you first kissed me—that day you were like sweet water, like an anchor, like the unexpected warmth of the sun in midwinter. You became my reason for living, though I couldn’t tell you then. You were my highest joy, a delicious secret made all the more sweet by the need for secrecy. I would sacrifice the remaining span of my years to live for just one more day in the glow of your love for me. My body thirsts for your touch, and my heart cries out for your warmth.

I have forgiven you, though. When I meet you inside my dreams, it’s as though you never left. My aunt called yesterday with the news that my cousin's wedding is going to be Teh OMG Fancy!!1!one! Now I finally have an excuse to wear that prom dress that's been sitting in the back of my closet since the dawn of time. And it fits! Go me!

My mom, on the other hand, is not so fortunate. We had to go thrift store-hopping to find her something to wear.

And while we were there, I found... a pair of boots! No ordinary boots these, though. They had zippers and buckles and were made of black leather and generally looked like the perfect footwear to trample enemies under one's feet. I fell in love the moment I saw them, but alas, it was not to be.

They. Didn't. Fit. Curse my hobbit feet! They're the reason I hate shopping for shoes. *sulks*

Oh well. Kudos to whoever buys those boots; they're amazing.
